Why?
Because the private markets are a $22 trillion behemoth that is wildly
inefficient. Financial institutions, many of which are among the most
important in the industry, invest in these markets utilizing severely
antiquated infrastructure. It's not quite duct-taped, but it's close.
Poor data management and analog workflows lead to capital misallocations,
tons of wasted time, and large, mega-firms crowding out newcomers.
On a daily basis, fundraisers fight the fight for investors' attention,
traveling to hit-or-miss meetings, cold calling, and sending an inordinate
amount of emails. Investors are equally frustrated, they're pushed
way beyond their limits, unable to manage the firehose of data, documents,
and meeting requests. Importantly, this isn't just an operations bottleneck.
These allocators are fiduciaries with a legal responsibility to 'know
their investments' inside and out, a task not surprisingly made harder
at scale.
Across the industry, unstructured data, manual processes, and
opacity are the common unifying pain points of both LPs and GPs.
Complicating matters, tech stacks are often held together by
Excel, email, and sometimes a CRM. It's an analog ecosystem devoid
of cloud-based, front-office work tools, not to mention anything
AI-powered. Enter Clade.
Our platform was built as a catalyst
to reduce costs, remove complexity, and most importantly, save everyone
time. We started with a clean slate, a passion for design, and a respect
for the varying objectives of both investors and fundraisers. We took
in a large amount of LP and GP input when building our tool kit, and
we're really psyched about how it all turned out. Of course we're always
reaching higher, in constant motion iterating the platform based on
user needs, technological advances, and market opportunities.
Our mission is actually embedded
in our name: 'Clade', defined as an interrelated, biological network.
A clade forms in nature when a species undergoes a period of rapid
change, a punctuated equilibrium. The global investment industry is
now entering its own digital punctuated equilibrium. With generative
AI shaping the landscape, the future of finance will look nothing like
its recent past. The endgame will be private markets that function
more like the public ones. And as many on the inside know, it's happening
at an exceedingly fast pace. We're beyond excited to help drive this
revolution, whereby greater transparency and liquidity will open up
capital to a new generation of investors, entrepreneurs, and business
builders.
